授業の科目例

●プロジェクトマネジメントを検証(Project Management)
マネージャーの立場から、プロジェクトマネジメントについての理論と実践について検証する。授業では、学生がプロジェクトを決定し、必要なリソースを検証し、提案書を作成。契約に必要な事項を示し、一連のタスクを決定して、プロジェクトスケジュールを作成していく。

●国際ビジネスの基礎を学ぶ(International Business)
国際社会でのビジネスに必要な、経済、文化、法律、政治などをグローバルな視点から学ぶ。グループプロジェクトもあり、現地生とグループになってプロジェクトに取り組み、プレゼンテーションをする機会も多い。ビジネス科目の基礎を学ぶこともできるため、受講する学生も多い。

●起業を目指す人、会社の仕組みを知りたい人に(Entrepreneurship)
ビジネスを自分で興そうと考えている人でなくとも、学ぶことの多い授業であり、包括的にビジネスを学びたい人にはお勧め。テストや起業の企画書ともに厳しく採点されるが学び甲斐のある授業。

●人事に求められる知識を得る(Human Resource Management)
企業の人事部門に関連するアメリカの法律やマネージメント手法を学ぶ。リクルーティングやテスト、採用面接から選考、給与管理、評価、人材管理など、人事に必要な知識を身につける。

●多文化環境でのコンサルティングにチャレンジ(Multicultural Business Consulting)
多文化のビジネス環境をマネジメントするための実践的経験を積む。授業でマーケティングや財務分析などを学ぶとともに、3ヵ月かけて実際に会社をコンサルティングする。週末にはミーティングがあり、リサーチやレポートに膨大な時間を費やす必要がある。アメリカ人とディスカッションする機会もあり、留学生にとっては苦労も多いが、やりがいのある授業。

●ジャーナリズムに関心のある人におすすめ(Introduction to Mass Media)
情報化社会を担う、新聞・雑誌・TV・ラジオ・映画・インターネットがどのような役割を持ち、メッセージを発信しているか理解し、情報源に対して常にCritical Thinkingをもって接することができるようになることを目的とした授業。学生側からさまざまなコメントが飛び交い、実にインタラクティブなムード。レポートが2回、テストが中間と期末の2回ある。

●プレゼンの実践で英語力を向上(Public Speaking)
人前でいかに理論的かつ魅力的に話すことができるかを学ぶ。隔週で与えられるテーマに対し、自分のプレゼンを考え、準備をして、クラスメイトの前で発表。スピーチ構成の作り方、話し方、声のトーンやピッチというノンバーバルコミュニケーションの領域についても学ぶ。プレゼンテーションを繰り返すことで、自信もついて英語の上達にもつながる。

●演劇の基礎を学ぶ(Basic Acting Fundamentals)
俳優たちが使う演劇技術や方法を学ぶ。即興での動きの作り方からシーンでの演劇法まで、幅広く基礎を学ぶ。ウォームアップから、発声方法、感情表現などを実際に体験する。

●目指せDECA National出場(Marketing Activities in DECA)
毎年開催されるDECA(ビジネスコンペティション)の全国大会出場を目指して取り組む授業。コミュニティーサービスプロジェクトなどに参加しつつ、リーダーシップ力やコミュニケーション力などを身につけ、DECAの大会で発表するプレゼンテーションを準備する。

●マーケティングの流れを理解する(Principles of Marketing)
マーケティングのプランニング、価格決定、販売促進、財とサービスの流通などといった、マーケティングの流れについて学ぶ。経済におけるマーケティングの役割と意志決定のためのプロセスを検証するなど、グループで取り組む課題もあり、授業時間外も共同作業をするなど、クラスメイトたちとの交流が深まる。

●世界の紛争から国連の役割を考察(The United Nations)
世界の紛争を取り上げ、学生がプレゼンテーションし、そこから国連の役割を考えるという学生主体のクラス。授業は週1回なので、自己責任でクラス外の学習を進める必要がある。世界の貧困や紛争などの国際情勢に興味のある人にはおすすめ。また、中国での模擬国連に参加できる機会があるのもこのクラスの魅力。

●人種やジェンダーについて学ぶ(Introduction to Sociology)
人種や性差別、またLGBTQについてなど、日本では普段学ぶ機会のあまりないアメリカならではのトピックを学べる授業。アメリカの社会問題などを学びたい人にはおすすめ。

●知られざる世界の国々の文化に触れる(Intercultural Communications」
スピーチの授業。クラスメイトと話す機会や、プロジェクトに取り組む機会が豊富にある。他のクラスに比べると、さまざまな国の留学生が多く、世界中の文化に触れられるのも大きな魅力。国際的な人間関係の構築、プレゼンテーションスキルの向上をはかりたい人に。

●クリティカル・シンキングを身につける(Critical Thinking)
アメリカでは幼い時から叩き込まれるCritical thinkingのスキルを改めて学ぶことができる授業。議論の様々な種類や、論理的な考え方を学ぶことができる。

●ビジネスに必須のソフトウエアの知識を習得(Business Software Essentials)
ビジネスの現場で必須のWindowsソフトの使い方を学ぶ授業。ファイル管理の仕方から、ビジネス書類のデザイン、スプレッドシートでの統計など、典型的なビジネスの環境で必要となるソフトウエアの基礎を習得。

●ラジオ放送を実際に体験(Basic Broadcasting)
Bellevue Collegeが持つラジオ局KBCSを使って、ラジオ放送の基礎を学ぶ。実際に機材なども使い、本格的で実践的なスキルを学べる。毎週2時間の授業と2時間のスタジオでの作業の組み合わせで、ラジオ放送に必要な基礎を身につける。コースを修了した人は、KBCSでボランティアとして実際の放送に関わることもできる。

●グループで広告プロジェクトを体験(Advertising)
グループでクライアントを決め、1つのプロジェクトを完成させる。個人の課題も毎日のようにありハードな授業。しかし、バックグラウンドの違う人たちと共にプロジェクトを完遂させることの難しさ、そして、アドバタイズメントの面白さを味わえる。

●カスタマーサービスに焦点をあてる(Client/Customer Relations)
クラスメイトとのディスカッション、効果的なコミュニケーションスタイルを見つけるエクササイズ、企業訪問をしてカスタマーサービスの現状を研究する個人プロジェクトや小グループによるプレゼンテーションプロジェクトなど。米国のサービス業の“生の声”に触れることができる。

●通訳・翻訳の基礎を学ぶ(Introduction to Translation and Interpreting)
専門的な知識とスキルを必要とする通訳・翻訳の分野の基礎を学ぶ。この分野における一般的な課題や、求められるスキルの理解を深める。

●食文化から人類学を考える(Food, Drink & Culture)
人類学のコースの一つ。授業の中で実際に各国の伝統食を味わい、文化的・生物学的・考古学的・言語学的視点から、そこに潜む生活の原点を考察する。「You are what you eat」というフレーズに、深い意味を見出すことができる。

●栄養・健康・フィットネスの関連性を学ぶ(Nutrition Health & Fitness)
バランスの良い食事、エクササイズ、健康、食の安全のコンセプトを捉える。栄養学に基づく健康的なライフスタイルの理解を深める。

●写真技術の基礎を学ぶ(Basic Photo)
実際の暗室を使って、カメラの扱い方から現像の仕方、モノクロ写真の作り方などの写真技術の基礎を学ぶ。毎週4時間の講義と2時間の暗室での作業の組み合わせで進む授業。
